Hardware Items:
7 Compaq Presario CQ5600Y Desktop & 18.5" LCD Monitor Package: Cost is $380 Each. Total is $2660
Math Blaster Ages 6-8 (5-User Lab Pack): Cost is $125
Smart Notebook Math Tools: Cost $129
Summaries:
The new computers were chosen because we need to keep students up to date with technology. The outdated computers can still be used, but it's better if we also have new computers for the students as well. The overhead projector would be a useful tool in a math classroom. It would allow the teacher to write problems for the students to see clearly and would be a great learning tool. Having a printer that is also a copier and scanner is always a useful piece of technology to have. Students can print out their reports from the software programs and even make copies to take home! The Master Blaster software is wonderful for second graders. It has many fun activities to keep the children interested and have fun while they are learning. There is also a progress tracker to keep note of the students' performance. Having a basic calculator available for each student in the classroom is essential. There may be some with financial issues and having them borrow in the classroom if they cannot afford one yet or have accidentally left it at home one day will ensure no student is lost in the lesson. Having extra is always good just in case.
The Smart Board was chosen because of it's ability to have classroom interaction with assignments. It is up to date and used in about 60% of all classrooms. It provides a white board space for work and has an information space that allows students to engage in active collaboration. The Smart Board also allows students to work with large amounts of information. It is also convenient for teachers because The Smart Board works with any program loaded or available on the host computer such as Microsoft PowerPoint, excel and word. Teachers can connect a software to the Smart Board for a better lesson. Since we are talking about a 2nd grade math class, the Smart Notebook Math tools software will add to the students learning. This software is an add on which includes virtual math tools such as a ruler, compass, and protractor.
